Community Fund Launched for Newhaven

On August 27, Newhaven Enterprise Zone (NEZ) launched the ‘Newhaven EZ Community Fund’ at Newhaven’s festival of Belonging, The fund offers grants of up to £5,000 to support local charities and non-profit organisations.

Members of the local community, NEZ partners and local business owners, joined NEZ Programme Director, Corinne Day to celebrate the launch of the fund by giving out locally produced Boho Gelato ice-cream, answering questions and inviting the community to tell them what they would do for Newhaven with £5,000.

Corinne shared her enthusiasm at the festival, saying: “It’s fantastic to see the community out in full force at this fantastic event. There is a renewed energy in Newhaven, and it is great to be able to discuss with local residents how we are all to be a part of that change.

“We are delighted to launch this community fund and look forward to seeing it contribute to Newhaven’s bright future.”

The fund will be managed by the Sussex Community Foundation and will give support to charities and non-profit organisations. Applications must benefit Newhaven and should help to encourage a sense of place and build on the thriving community in the town. The annual pot of £25,000 is expected to increase over the coming years.

Stephen Chamberlain, Head of Philanthropy at Sussex Community Foundation, said: “It’s great to see money from the Enterprise Zone being made available to help support the local community in Newhaven. We encourage local community groups and charities to work together to make the most of the money available and look forward to reviewing the applications in the near future.”

Newhaven Enterprise Zone has been established as a three-way agreement between the Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership, Lewes District Council and government.
