Maria Caulfield, the MP for Newhaven, is delighted to report new homes and public assets for Newhaven, as part of a regeneration plan.
Lewes District Council on Monday committed to investing in the development of the town. The development will include over 100 affordable houses, as well as a supermarket, a hotel and a leisure centre. There will also be at least 30 minutes of free parking for shoppers.
Ms Caulfield has been backing the 69-bedroom hotel which will serve as a much needed asset, especially due to having a ferry port and visitors from the continent. The affordable homes are also much needed to encourage young people to stay in the town.
Maria said, “this is exactly what Newhaven needs. From creating an Enterprize Zone to incentivise business, to upcoming plans to ease pressure on the Newhaven ring road, I have been pushing hard to help Newhaven to regenerate. For too long, the needs of the town have been neglected, which has resulted in Newhaven being dismissed as a place to spend time and shop.”
“Newhaven has so much history and potential for growth. We must continue to do all we can to attract businesses and cater for those living here and arriving on the ferry from Dieppe, and the plans announced by LDC will certainly help to deliver this.”
