With many of Newhaven’s businesses situated in an area considered a high risk for flooding, this can cause insurance issues.
With the Newhaven Flood Alleviation Scheme (NFAS) still underway, the maps/risks will not be updated until it’s completed (currently programmed for March 2021).
In the interim period, businesses are advised to contact the Environment Agency who can provide bespoke information on the current risks to individual properties and can explain the benefit provided by the NFAS, which is described as an Insurance Related Request (IRR).
If anybody is having problems with gaining insurance then the best way that they can get additional information is to contact SSDEnquiries@environment-agency.gov.uk and request an IRR. It’s always useful if the full address and postcode can be provided and a plan submitted with the property boundary shown in red.
