Second year of the EZ Community Fund launches

Newhaven Enterprise Zone has launched the second year of the Newhaven EZ Community Fund at a celebratory exhibition in Newhaven.

The fund offers £25,000 in grants to support local charities and non-profit organisations.

Local business partners and community members joined the Enterprise Zone’s Programme Director, Corinne Day, to celebrate the launch of the second year of funding and to showcase photos taken by local photographers capturing Newhaven over the last year.

Previous Community Fund winners joined the event to share how the grants have helped their organisations. Peter and Joan Rhodes, Directors at Growing Together Community Garden, Mark Beaumont, Co-Founder and Cox at Newhaven Gig Rowing Club, and Clifford Dargonne, Founder at Denton Community Challenge and James Daniels Memorial Fund, all shared their thanks and encouraged other groups to apply to the fund.

The Fund is managed by the Sussex Community Foundation and applications are now open for grants up to £5,000. Applications are encouraged from projects that foster innovation in community participation, address inequality, raise aspirations and develop opportunities for people in Newhaven to be more actively engaged.

In her welcome to guests, Corinne said: “It’s fantastic to be launching the second round of funding here at Newhaven’s Hillcrest Centre.

“It’s been a pleasure to see how the money has benefitted the town over the last year and I really encourage local community groups and charities to apply and make the most of the money available and support the thriving town of Newhaven.”
