Former UTC building among Lewes district projects to receive funding boost

The Leader of Lewes District Council has welcomed £1.3million in government funding for the former UTC building in Newhaven along with investment into other four projects in Lewes district.

The money announced today (Tuesday) from the government’s Getting Building Fund, designed to support economic recovery and create jobs, is a boost to the council’s plans for the site, which sits in the town’s Enterprise Zone but is currently empty.

Councillor James MacCleary, Leader of Lewes District Council, said:  “As a Newhaven resident, I’m very pleased this landmark building has a fantastic future with the hub project to provide workspace for small to medium-sized enterprises complemented by an education and training offer.

“This is an important first step on bringing the building back into use, which will take up to 18 months as it needs a lot of work.

“We will keep working with our partners to get the real investment our town needs and deserves. Newhaven is an exciting place to be with a bright future ahead.”
