Newhaven flood alleviation scheme – Notice of Works on the Railway at Newhaven
12 to 14 December and 24 to 27 December 2020.
Please be aware that the Environment Agency is carrying out work on the railway at Newhaven to enable the installation of a temporary flood barrier which we would deploy during future flood events. This is the final part of our flood defence scheme which, once complete, will better protect approximately 430 homes, 390 businesses and vital infrastructure including the railway line and road network in and around Newhaven.
The work will be on the railway at Parsons Crossing near the northern end of the North Industrial Estate (adjacent to the Veolia Waste Incinerator Plant).
The railway from Seaford to Lewes will be closed for planned Network Rail maintenance work between 12 to 14 December and 24 to 27 December 2020. We will use these opportunities to carry out our works.
During these periods there will be no trains running and there may be some disturbance to local residents such as noise.
Efforts are in place to keep the disturbance to a minimum. For further details, please see the attached letter which will be distributed to local residents near to the work. The times of the rail closures when our works are scheduled are:
10pm on 12 December 2020 to 4am on 14 December and
8pm on 24 December to 6am on 27 December 2020.
If members of the public require more information please direct them to the Environment Agency’s National Customer Contact Centre on 03708 506506 (Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm) or by email firstname.lastname@example.org
