Posted on 30/01/2019
South East Local Enterprise Partnership (SELEP) and Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership (C2C) have agreed on a new strategic relationship for Newhaven Enterprise Zone.
Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) are business-led and work with local authorities, education providers and others to drive forward economic growth and job creation in designated areas by concentrating on business, people and places.
The Enterprise Zone will remain within the SELEP area and additionally C2C and SELEP will work together to drive forward transformational investment in Newhaven. The changes will come into effect from April 1, 2019 and there will be a two-year transition period as the new strategic relationships are established.
SELEP and C2C will continue to work with existing partners, Lewes District Council, East Sussex County Council and Newhaven Town Council to deliver transformation in the town.
Tim Wates, Coast to Capital Chairman said: “We are proud of the work of the Newhaven Enterprise Zone which will continue to drive forward transformational investment in the town. We look forward to working with partners to ensure its continued success”.
Corinne Day, Programme Director of Newhaven Enterprise Zone, added: “The work of the Enterprise Zone is focussed on the regeneration of the town and strong partnerships with the local LEPs are essential to the long-term economic growth of the area.
“Both Coast 2 Capital and SELEP understand the challenges and opportunities of the Enterprise Zone and we will work together to drive forward growth and investment in the town.”
To date, more than £27 million has been invested in Newhaven by stakeholders and private sector funding providing critical flood defences, improving site viability and unlocking land for development.
