UTC@Harbourside: Have Your Say

Posted on 03/10/2018

Further to the announcement that UTC@Harbourside in Newhaven will close in August 2019, the Secretary of State is undertaking a listening exercise to collate the views of local people, businesses and stakeholders.

The survey gives people the opportunity to share views about UTC@Harbourside’s closing and the school’s future.

Newhaven Enterprise Zone’s Strategic Board has submitted a response that focusses on the need for there to be an education and skills provision in the town.

Corinne Day, Programme Director of Newhaven Enterprise Zone, said: “The rationale for there to be continued education and skills provision in the Newhaven area remains strong.

“Local businesses in the town require a workforce with specialist skills including engineering and design skills and employers are continually seeking technically qualified workplace-ready employees.”

The Enterprise Zone’s Strategic Framework identifies how Newhaven’s population is lower skilled on average compared to Coast to Capital’s area and how there is a need to utilise all further education facilities to promote pathways to employment. In turn, the Enterprise Zone hopes to facilitate the development of talent that meets the skills needs of Newhaven.
